About Us

When our granddaughter was
born hearing impaired and a year later received cochlear implants, we soon
became aware of the problems involved with keeping heavy Cochlear Implant (CI) processors on little
children.
As I searched the internet for
something to help her, I didn't find anything that was comfortable, kept the processors secure and was easy to use.
Finally, I came upon the idea of pocketed headbands. After several attempts and
modifications, I had developed a headband that has worked for Sami.
With the headbands, our
daughter and son-in-law are able to keep the processors on Sami and she is
quickly gaining language skills. Since one of the reasons that CIs fail to
work
for infants and toddlers is the inability to keep the processors in place, every
speech therapist, audiologist or hearing impaired teacher Sami sees remarks that
the headbands should be made available to other CI patients. For this reason
Joy Bands
® was born.
Joy Bands
®
takes its name from Sami’s great-grandmother who died a few months before Sami
was born and who suffered from a severe hearing impairment during the last 40
years of her life. Also Sami’s middle name, Joy describes what Sami has
brought to our family. We hope that Joy Bands
® can bring joy to
your family, too.
